TODAY VISIT THE PARK!!!

Image
I didn't bring a watch up to the loft, so when I woke up I couldn't tell the time. But I sensed it was too early to get up. A while later I heard Andrea downstairs who told me it was around two am; so I went  back to sleep. Got up around 4 then, made some coffee and came out to sit on the deck. To wait for sunrise and for the two love birds to wake up. While waiting I decided a selfie would be a good idea. Here it is, though it looks like the head is also growing out of the ground Once it was light, i read one of the books I brought along on the trip. This is a series of short stories by the British writer Robert Aickman that are difficult to describe. Although the stories are fairly mundane, the characters are always a little off, and the stories take unexpected twists. But they are a joy to read, plus they are also very entertaining. They are up now, about 6 am. Next is breakfast and preparation of food for the hike. After breakfast we went to the park for our first hike. The...

IZAAK WALTON INN

The hotel we are staying is by the Amtrak railroad tracks and station- a short walk of less than a mile through the woods. The hotel is an old lodge located on the edge of Glacier Park, right by the railroad tracks as can be seen in the photo nearby. Even though the tracks are just by the hotel, the Amtrak "station" is a little away. But we didn't actually stay in the lodge itself, but rather in one of the railroad cars that are spread around the property. There were about a dozen of various types of cars. The one that Andrea rented was the red caboose. It has a very large bedroom with bed on the right hand side- it takes about half the caboose. On the other side there is a small kitchenette with a small table and a couple of chairs. The second "bedroom" was on the loft, the upper part of the caboose on the photo. Loft sounded appealing but it turned out to be a space of about 30 inches tall, with a thick mattress, making it quite difficult to get ...

ON THE WAY...TOO!

Wednesday 18th. Drove early to Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee. I had sufficient time, however there was a traffic accident at the Marquette interchange that slowed traffic. Apparently a car rear-ended a tanker truck and both went up in flames, fortunately nobody was hurt. By the time I got there traffic started moving faster so I made it to the airport on time. But not everything should turn out fine. When I went to check my bag found out that the flight was delayed, so I can't make it to my connecting flight in Chicago. The United clerk suggested that I take the bus and should be there on time. I am in the bus now, but we had to stop because one of the passengers had to get a ticket (?), maybe I won't make it in time now. But I can always take a selfie. We are starting again, keeping my fingers crossed. After a few more delays, arrived at O'Hare late for my flight, like I expected. Originally I had thought about driving  directly to Chicago but I then though...

GETTING READY!

Got my airline tickets and car and hotel reservations already for a visit to Glacier Park for a couple of days. I am leaving on Wednesday 18th in the morning from Milwaukee's Mitchell Airport, flying through O'Hare directly to Essex Montana. I'll meet  with Andrea and Jayant there on Wednesday evening when they arrive on the Empire Builder- Amtrak's train that will be take them from  Milwaukee to Seatle with the aforementioned stop in Essex for a couple of days to visit the park. We will be staying at the Izaak Walton Inn right in Essex, which appears to be a town even smaller than Kohler- it has a population of 130. This means that there are about 2 people per square mile so the chances of seeing anybody else when you go out for a walk are rather thin. Hopefully I'll be able to see some Grizzly bears or, at worse, a few ducks. But Essex seems not a good place to make many friends- but it's great if one is looking for solitude.
